Test the Alkalinity: Before adding Sodium Bicarbonate, test your pool's total alkalinity using a reliable pool water testing kit or strips. Ideal alkalinity levels typically range between 80-120 ppm (parts per million). If your pool's alkalinity is below this range, you'll need to raise it.
Determine the Amount: Check the label on the Jennychem Sodium Bicarbonate package for dosage guidelines. As a general rule, adding (680 grams) of Sodium Bicarbonate per 10,000 gallons of water will increase the total alkalinity by approximately 10 ppm.
Prepare the Solution: Fill a clean bucket with warm water. Slowly add the calculated amount of Sodium Bicarbonate, stirring continuously until it dissolves completely.
Apply to the Pool: With the pool circulation system running, slowly pour the dissolved Sodium Bicarbonate solution into the pool, distributing it evenly. If your pool has a skimmer, you can also pour the solution into it to ensure even distribution.
Allow Circulation: Let the pool's circulation system run for at least 2-3 hours to ensure thorough mixing and distribution of the Sodium Bicarbonate.
Re-test the Alkalinity: After 24 hours, test the pool water's alkalinity again to ensure it's within the desired range. If necessary, repeat the process until you achieve the correct alkalinity levels.
