How to use
The optimal dosage of aluminium sulphate depends on the quality of the water, particularly its turbidity, pH, and the type and concentration of contaminants.
If using an 8% solution, ensure that it is properly mixed before adding it to the water. This ensures uniform distribution of the chemical.
The solution can be diluted further if necessary, depending on the specific requirements of the treatment process.
Injection Point: The aluminium sulphate solution is usually injected into the raw water at a point where it can be rapidly mixed. This is often done in a flash mixing chamber or a point with high turbulence to ensure thorough mixing.
Mixing: After injection, the water is mixed to ensure even distribution of the aluminium sulphate throughout the water. This step is crucial for effective coagulation.
Coagulation: Aluminium sulphate reacts with the natural alkalinity of the water to form aluminium hydroxide, a precipitate that acts as a coagulant. This reaction typically occurs within seconds to minutes.
Flocculation: The small particles formed during coagulation aggregate into larger flocs. This step may be enhanced by slow mixing or by the addition of a flocculant aid, such as a polymer.
Sedimentation or Filtration: The formed flocs are then removed from the water through sedimentation (where they settle out of the water) or filtration.
